Cannabis protects and prevents spread of COVID

Innovative response

Cannabis protects from COVID
Localised laws and international regulations are preventing Hospitals from charting cannabis as a treatment option and protecting their staff against infections.

For the entire COVID pandemic I was consuming prescription cannabis medication every day.

On the 10th May 2024 I was admitted to Canberra Hospital and withheld access to cannabis while in the mental health ward.

Almost exactly 30 days after admission, I tested positive for COVID for the first time and experienced the range of symptoms not ever felt during the pandemic.

Specific issues addressed and anticipated impact

Allowing hospitals to chart cannabis medications as a COVID prevention measure.
Could also help mental health treatments and better patient to staff interactions.

Organisations/institutions involved

Health care institutions and hospitals.

Potential issues

Cannabis oil is more psychoactively inert.
Cannabis flower consumption has the potential for dependency issues.
