Innovative response
The official daily public mask stock information of each vendor(pharmacy, post office and designated mart) is provided including mask stock, address of vendor, warehousing of mask stocks and etc. Datasets are available based on address and coordinates(latitude / longitude) by vendor and region.
Datasets are collected by HIRA and then are processed (e.g. combine GPS Coordinates for the address of each vendor) by NIA and also released with an Open API format on the central open data portal(data.go.kr). Especially, the Naver Cloud Platform was used and also freely provided as an API server to quickly provide the dataset for independent developers, internet portals(such as Naver and Kakao Corporation), and startups."
Specific issues addressed and anticipated impact
This response was started to meet civic hacker's needs that if government data published in real-time and an open format, they then can help developing application services to address COVID-19 issues. In response to their request, government was focused on prioritizing the release of government data that responds to user needs such as, data availability of public masks, secured hospital from COVID-19 and COVID-19 testing clinics, etc. It encourages data users to develop mobile apps and web services providing the locations of authorized stores and how many masks they have in stock so that citizens avoid visiting multiple stores to make their purchases.
