Call for Interns: OECD Innovative, Digital and Open Government Division (INDIGO)

Are you eager to work on innovative and interesting projects, push the boundaries of what’s possible in the public sector, and help advance open and democratic societies? The OECD’s Innovative, Digital and Open Government Division (INDIGO) is searching for multiple talented individuals in pursuit of graduate degrees (e.g. master’s, PhD) to join our team for paid internships for the period of Autumn 2025 (six-month internship, with the possibility to extend up to 12 months).

The deadline for application is Sunday, 6 July, 2025, 23:59 CEST (instructions below).  Both in-person (Paris) and fully remote options are possible.

The OECD Internship Programme is designed to provide highly qualified and motivated students from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to gain valuable experience and hone their analytical and technical skills in an international environment.

Potential internship focus areas are spread across INDIGO’s three teams:

Digital Government and Data Unit (DDU)

  • Artificial intelligence (AI) in government. Explore how governments are leveraging AI to improve public sector productivity, responsiveness, and accountability. Planned efforts include research on relevant topics, data collection and analysis, case study development, and organising AI meetings and events.

Open Government Unit (OGU)

  • Various potential openings for individuals interested in Open Government issues (Citizen Participation & Digital Democracy; Government Information and Communications; Civic Space; etc.). See here for details.

Cross-cutting

  • Communications: Support the development of communication strategies and plans, amplify key messages, assist in executing communication campaigns, manage web content, and contribute to identifying new communication channels.

Tasks will vary across different internship positions but are likely involve the following competencies:  

  • Written communication: Preparation of notes, reports, blogs and case studies. Creating engaging online content and monitoring communications performance is also beneficial.  
  • Secondary research: Carrying out desk research, supporting literature reviews and identifying global best practices.  
  • Primary research: Carrying out interviews and collecting, organising and analysing qualitative and/or quantitative data. Supporting facilitation of research workshops.  
  • Operations support: Planning and participating in meetings and events. Designing and coordinating online research workshops.    
  • Understanding of the topics relevant to the team and subject area: Demonstrable interest/awareness of one of more of the focus areas described above.  

Pay and benefits  

  • Full-time OECD Interns are paid a taxable allowance of EUR 1,000 per month.  
  • Full-time interns earn 2.5 days of leave per month.
    • Candidate requirements 
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time degree programme (in a related field or discipline) for the entire duration of the internship.
  • Must be a citizen of an OECD Member country or OECD Accession country (Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Peru or Romania); preference will be given to candidates from under-represented Member countries.
  • Fluency in English (depending on the project, knowledge of French or Spanish would be an asset) 
  • If selected, the candidate must be able to obtain a Memorandum of Agreement between their school and the OECD, which governs the terms of the internship
