Livestock chain

The Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia proudly introduces the innovative mobile application called Livestock Chain as a groundbreaking solution leveraging Blockchain technology to effectively manage livestock data within the all country regions. This visionary application is designed to preserve the rich heritage of livestock while offering a secure mechanism for data storage and retrieval, by assigning each livestock a unique identifier.

Innovation Summary

Innovation Overview

This innovation come from the following challenges:
- The Kingdome is a big country with a rich number of livestock, so it’s difficult to mange and track it.
- Due to the large livestock number, there was a lot of paper work such as the ownership transfers and sell.
- It’s was difficult to other government entities to get accurate data about the livestock and there owners.
To address these challenges the core of the application is to use blockchain technology that facilitate and automate the process. Also, to enhance the digital experience for beneficiaries through the application, livestock owners gain convenient access to procedures directly from their smartphones.
Owners can effortlessly create and manage their asset portfolios, registering and tracking ownership of their livestock on the Livestock Chain application.
One of the key features of the application is its commitment to maintaining data availability to authorized parties, including livestock owners and relevant authorities such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Interior. Livestock Chain achieves this without the need to host the data locally, adhering to the highest standards of data sharing. Various entities can actively participate in the Livestock Chain application, contributing to integration, data retrieval, security, and access.
Future directions include integrating with more government entities to allow inquiries about livestock and allow the establishment of future integration points when needed, increasing the types of data stored in the system, data on the movements of incoming trucks loaded with livestock, and data on the geographical distribution of imported and local livestock within the Kingdom, supporting food security in the Kingdom by improving import and export operations has a positive impact on the quantity and quality of livestock, and providing a satisfactory experience for customers and their reliance on the application in all transactions related to livestock.

Innovation Description

What Makes Your Project Innovative?

Livestock Chain is a Blockchain-based application this technology allows multiple parties to store, encrypt, and share information without a central intermediary, such as government agencies. also allows livestock owners to create secure records of livestock ownership, preserve livestock heritage, and provide safe storage and retrieval by using digital wallet technology, which stores and manages digital assets like cryptocurrencies or tokens, using encryption and other security measures so each livestock is assigned a unique identifier and linked to an immutable data record, providing high security and transparency. and by Using smart contracts, which are self-executing digital contracts encoded on Blockchain applications, they automate processes and transactions without intermediaries, allowing ownership of livestock to be transferred to sellers and buyers without the need for a third party or traditional transactions.

What is the current status of your innovation?

The development of a Blockchain initiative involves several stages, including planning, analysis and benchmarking, identifying stakeholders, determining procedures and services, and defining the scope of the initiative. The initiative includes a Blockchain application to record livestock information, an electronic application for livestock owners, and digital identification of livestock. The initial model is beta tested to ensure proper functionality and effectiveness. The Ministry implements a Blockchain network, allowing it to be extended to other partners and stakeholders. The Livestock chain application is developed for livestock owners to review data and carry out ownership transfers. Integration points are created to allow other parties to query livestock data without extending the Blockchain network. The new model is rolled out across the entity, with all stakeholders informed and trained on the new processes and technologies.

Challenges and Failures

- Implementing the Blockchain technology.
- Educating users and motivating them to register in the application.
- Difficulty in identifying livestock numbers and their locations.

Conditions for Success

- Supporting infrastructure and services: using and development Blockchain technology.
- Policy and rules: develop new Policy and rules from the ministry to support this application.
- Leadership and guidance: getting the needed support from the ministry leadership.
- Personal values and motivation: we stop the manual work persuader and engorge the people to use the application.

Replication

The same scope of this application cannot be replicated but the using of the Blockchain technology related to data can be used in any sector other than livestock.

Lessons Learned

- You have to capture the accurate AS-IS for any innovation idea before starting technical development.
- You have to involve the beneficiaries in development the mobile app to address their need and requirement, to improve the customer experience.
